Safety systems for security area surveillance

The HDRC® image sensor developed at the IMS is an element part of the revolutionary SafetyEYE® system made by the Ostfildern based Pilz GmbH & Co KG.

SafetyEYE® is a safety camera system developed by the Pilz company in cooperation with DaimlerChrysler.
SafetyEYE® controls, monitors and secures the man/machine interaction and solve typical problems between safety and security. Using SafetyEYE® during production enables the replacement of common and frequently restricting safety devices. For example, the safety camera system monitors robot workstations closely. Be it protection, control or monitoring – SafetyEYE® achieves this using one single system that also enables an ergonomic man/machine cooperation.

SafetyEYE® is the first safe camera system that can safely monitor work processes to protect and control (safety) man and machine as well as protect objects against unlawful access (security).

The Pilz company utilizes the abilities of the highly dynamic HDRC® image sensors for its sensor unit cameras. The Institut für Mikroelektronik Stuttgart has developed a special new image sensor for Pilz and added new safety features.

Automation, inspection, welding applications

The combination between an intelligent camera and a digital high-capacity sensor is the key to success. Using the seelector ICAM weld and combining the highly-dynamic HDRC® sensor and the intelligent image processing enables the monitoring of several welding processes at the same time. The camera sensor is able to capture, display and feed extremely bright as well as extremely dark image components simultanously into an automatic image evaluation.

This also makes feasible a gapless process documentation as well as the online evaluation and analysis of several different types of welding processes, such as MIG, MAG, WIG, Laser, Plasma.

The patented highly-dynamic HDRC® sensor technology renders the highest brightness dynamics within an image. The sensor captures very dark and very bright image ranges with one exposure. The entire brightness range of one scene is captured in one image and doesn´t have to be recorded using several exposures with varying shutter speed. Due to its high brightness dynamics the HDRC® sensor adapts to time variable lighting conditions automatically and, therefore, doesn´t have to be adjusted “image after image”.

HDRC® Camera-Guided Aircraft Docking

The weatherproof HDRC® camera aircraft docking system is installed at the gates of international airports, such as airports in Barcelona, Billund, Brussels, Dresden, Hanover, Leipzig, Madrid, Beijing, Canton, Seoul and Tel Aviv.

The video-based guided docking system developed by the GEVITEC company and Honeywell Airport Systems guides the pilot through a display mounted at the airport facility when approaching the gate and enables an exact parking position in order to dock on the gangway.

The combination of the highly dynamic HDRC® image sensor technology with high-power image processing algorithms ensures a round the clock precise determination of the aircraft position during docking on the maneuvering area and in all ambient and lighting conditions, be it rain, snow, fog or direct sunlight exposure.
